Carefree Vintage Glam

Photos by Ace Photography

Modern weddings are about being true to your own sense of style and your lifestyle.  If you love the glamorous retro look, but want to celebrate without fuss and pretense – then marry the two with a carefree vintage countryside wedding.

Brandi Warf and Emmett “Skip” Wilkerson did that beautifully at their July 31 Cedarwood wedding by mixing vintage glamour with a fresh twist..  Imagine a sophisticated city-living bride marrying her betrothed at the family’s farm in the country.  Fresh, fun, carefree…that is the look and feel of this family-oriented summer garden wedding!

One of the biggest  ’must haves’ for vintage glamour is a fabulous birdcage veil. We love how Ace Photography used sepia tones to pump up the vintage vibe in this stunning portrait of the bride.

A true celebration of love and family, this wedding is brimming with beauty.  We adore the color, the lighting, and especially the happiness in these ceremony photos.  Vintage Beatles tunes were perfect musical accompaniments.

There are many opportunities to be carefree  at Cedarwood.  For all couples getting married here, we recommend scheduling a little time to play around, let go and have fun.  Then eat cake and celebrate!

Thanks Ace Photography for sharing your work. We love the creek shot!

Sarah, Mary Catherine, Brandi and Emmett – you are beautiful and blessed. Thanks for sharing your fresh, fun country celebration with us.

Juicy Fruit : Summer Wedding

Photos by Dove Wedding Photography

Hot summer flavors like mango, lemon, cherry and lime  Yummmm.

These colors are as luscious as this July 10 Cedarwood summer wedding.  Bright, bold wedding design and colorful details are not only among the latest wedding “in” trends, they say summer like nothing else.

Details in this wedding are fun, fresh, bright and happy.  The whimsical wedding cake by Patty Cakes is a perfect compliment to this wedding style and Dove Wedding Photography’s images are just as delicious.  All floral and decor are by the Cedarwood Design Team.

This post is about showing how design+details+setting can pull a look together throughout each aspect of a wedding celebration.  Enjoy a little taste of juicy fruit summer flavor.

Thanks for sharing this visual feast!

Cedarwood Christmas Wedding : Andrea and Adam

Photos by Jeter Photography

We treasure the beauty, light and celebration Christmas season brings into cold, gray and wet winter weather. It’s no wonder so many couples tap into this enchanted time to get married.

Andrea Craig and Adam Roberson’s December 18 Cedarwood wedding is confirmation that whatever season, whatever the weather, love between two people surrounded by the abounding beauty of nature, warms hearts.

We love the red and white colors of this wedding and photos by Jeter Photography - perfect for the season and perfect for Historic Cedarwood (white house + red barn + red farm truck!)

Andrea and Adam had one longing wish for their nuptials – to wed in the Cedarwood barn. Despite the rainy day and cool temps, Andrea and Adam’s family and friends were eager and ready to support their wish. A barn wedding it was!

We don’t have many winter weddings at Cedarwood, but after seeing these photos by Jeter Photography, we think more people will contemplate Christmas season celebrations!

Heavenly Blue : Britni and Chris

Photos by Ace Photography

Early Autumn is a heavenly time for weddings.  What made Britni Hall and Chris Cahill’s September 17  Morning Glory wedding outstanding was this match-made-in-heaven couple.  How would I describe Britni and Chris?  Like a delightful patch of flowers in an unexpected garden nook. Happy, sweet, inspiring.

Ace Photography captured all the right shots on wedding day and brought Britni and Chris back to Cedarwood for an ‘after session’ and the best of both worlds:  morning and afternoon light!  The next photo from their afternoon ‘after session’ is truly ethereal.

The bridesmaids’ misty blue Grecian-style chiffon gowns by Bari Jay flowed like fountains as they processed to “Heaven” masterfully played by Nashville Wedding Guitarist Rob Higginbotham. Britni gave her special girls crystal, pearl and aquamarine earrings by Cedarwood’s custom designed Something Blue wedding jewelry line, which they wore to the wedding.

Officiant  Ralph Griggs (shown above) conducted  a romantic ceremony for Britni and Chris.  We love how he presents a unity sand ceremony. Inspirational!

With a nod to fall, floral and decor included a fresh blend of yellow and blue flowers mixed with berries, vines and petite pumpkins on chocolate linens.  Blue fans were guest favors and added an additional pop of color. We love the blue and brown wedding cake by Patty Cakes!

Thanks Ace Photography for sharing images from Britni and Chris’ wedding. Great work!

Britni and Chris, may your love always be heaven sent!

Real Weddings: Southern Elegance – Global Affair

Photos by McCoy Made

Cedarwood design team’s creed for creative brides:  be true to yourself! Your wedding should express your love and all things romantic and lovely, shared with those closest to you. The more personal it is, the more pure it feels.

The marvelous, rich, textural depth of Laura Beth Cumbee and Josh Blaisdeu’s September 26 Cedarwood wedding speaks volumes about this bride’s sophisticated style.  Laura Beth once explained her vision to us as “The Great Gatsby meets Moulin Rouge” and the floral and décor design of this wedding has most definitely left its mark of distinction.  We must pause for a huge ‘thank you’ to Laura Beth for giving Cedarwood designers the pleasure (and compliment) of creative trust in expressing your extraordinary design style.

For those of you who love adventure, color, a taste of the exotic, this wedding will resonate like music for the eyes.  We are always ecstatic when photographs capture the essence and the detail of Cedarwood weddings and Mark and Noelle McCoy of McCoy Made nailed it!  Fantastic photography! We are so grateful Mark and Noelle gave us a CD of all the images so we can share multiple blog posts on this wedding! Enjoy the beauty!

Shabby Style : Chic Wedding

Photos by Dove Wedding Photography

We love shabby chic style –  mixing elegant things with old and worn, celebrating the patina of life.  As a wedding style, shabby chic lends itself well to personal interpretation and taste. Whether going for the full shabby look, or simply incorporating a distressed element or two, this design style is a wonderful way to include family heirlooms in your wedding celebration and involve family members in the search for unique and meaningful pieces.

In general, shabby chic combines pastel colors with lots of white and uses vintage, distressed and unusal items to create a warm and inviting vibe.  We put together this shabby chic table for our Cedarwood design open house using mis-matched glass, antique bottles, a distressed white bird cage and a vintage crocheted table overlay with a light pink linen. Patterned papers and pencils added texture and provided a platform for guests to write wishes for the bride and groom.

Cedarwood has lots of shabby chic items to incorporate into tabletop decor along with your personal collection.  Of course, don’t forget to ask your grandmother, she may very well have some great stuff to add!

Thanks to Dove Wedding Photography for taking such great photos of this tabletop by the Cedarwood design team.

Vivacious Vintage Celebration : Jillian and Ryan Part 3

Photos by Kate Crafton of The Studio Five

Jullian and Ryan LaFave’s flawless wedding day flowed like silk into the evening celebration. September 5 was perfect :  a warm, sunny day with refreshing evening temps to usher in happy moods for cocktails and dinner.  The reception floral and decor repeats the vintage feel with lace overlays, vintage iron tabletop candelabras and romantic garden flowers mixed with personal accents like family portraits and Irish blessings for every guest.

As family heritage was a focus of their wedding, Jillian custom designed their wedding cake featuring family trees for her and Ryan. We love original cake designs, and remember Jillian sketching her idea on paper. Patty Russell of Patty Cakes was definitely up to the task. It turned out beautifully.

And what about Ryan’s Patty Cakes DeLorean ‘back to the future’ groom’s cake?  Smokin’ hot!

Who can resist beautifully romantic tables, candlelight, the wafing of fragrant garden flowers and fresh air?  Elegant surroundings at Cedarwood doesn’t mean giving up the relaxed atmosphere guests always rave about.  Cedarwood in three words? Chic not stuffy!

(Above) Love Jillian’s short reception dress!

There’s a whole lot of shaking going on this night to celebrate Jillian and Ryan’s marriage. Such a fun party! We can’t resist sharing some of the cool color-infused dance shots by Kate Crafton of The Studio Five.  In case you missed Part 1 and 2 of this wedding, check out her incredible photos from Jillian and Ryan’s wedding day at Cedarwood!

What a fantastic farewell for Jillian and Ryan.  (Below)  A romantic moment on the front porch before being showered with roses.

LOVE THEIR RIDE!  Matchless Limo is always impressive with  impecable class.  A vintage car for this vntage-inspired wedding made a send-off statement.  Now it’s off to Ireland for the honeymooners.

Jillian and Ryan and all of your fantastic families:  We had a great time!  Your wedding expresses why we love our work so much. May you always enjoy the luck (and blessings) of the Irish!

Kate, we will see you and The Studio Five back at Cedarwood this Month for our first wedding of the season. Can’t wait!

Vintagesque Garden Wedding : Jillian and Ryan Part 2

Photos by Kate Crafton of The Studio Five

Jillian and Ryan LaFave are blessed beyond measure to have a rich family heritage (with Irish roots) and the love of their extended family surrounding them, especially on the day of their marriage.  September 5 was a perfect day for a late summer, vintage-inspired garden wedding. Kate Crafton of The Studio Five did a masterful job of photographing Jillian and Ryan on the Cedarwood grounds with a vintagesque vibe.

(Above) Some of the magnificent ‘old growth’ Cedar trees on our historic estate are over 200 years old. We love the perspective this one brings to the beginning of Jillian and Ryan’s life together and their vintage country wedding.

Jillian and Ryan’s wedding ceremony paid tribute to their Irish heritage with an Irish blessing which served as their charge to each other: “Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and just be my friend.”

Family connections are an important theme of this wedding. Jillian’s antique wedding dress was custom made by her grandmother and wore by her mother at her wedding, and Jillian looks like a million dollars in it!

Ceremony flowers and bouquets were created by Cedarwood designers in a country romantic, vintage style, including many cherished ‘old’ flowers like Lily of the Valley, David Austin Roses and Queen Anne’s Lace.  Fresh flowers spill out of antique garden pots hanging from pews.

Beautiful ceremony music filled the air, provided by a trio of Jillian’s fellow Belmont music grads and a friend who now writes musical scores for films. Jillian’s personal contribution to the music was her custom arrangement of “Happy Together,” a favorite Franklin family song played during the ceremony recessional. It was totally appropriate for this dreamy-in-love couple. Feel the happiness in the next photo!

The joining of the Franklin and LaFave family trees was a key theme throughout Jillian and Ryan’s wedding celebration, and we loved their wedding program conversation starter featuring “What Tree Did You Fall From?”  Programs assigned dates to corresponding tree species that gave guests characteristic insights.  The tree of Jillian and Ryan’s wedding day was the Weeping Willow, which we learned ‘loves anything beautiful and tasteful, loves to travel, is empathetic, demanding, intuitive and sometimes finds an anchoring partner.’ Perfect for this beautiful, artistic, travel-loving newlywed couple who just happens to be traveling to Ireland for their honeymoon!

Being Cedarwood, we couldn’t resist discovering what the Cedar tree represents from Jillian and Ryan’s wedding tree’o'scope. According to this source, the Cedar tree represents ‘confidence’ – is of rare beauty, knows how to adapt, likes luxury, is healthy, determined, of many talents, industrious, optimistic and waiting for the one true love.  Appropriate for a place dedicated to beauty, hearts and the celebration of marriage!

Next up:  Jillian and Ryan’s reception celebration in Part 3.  More vintage loveliness and photos by the fabulous Kate Crafton!

Vintage Luxe : Real Cedarwood Wedding

Photos by Kate Crafton of The Studio Five

Weddings are magnificent events that anchor families from one generation to the next. Jillian Franklin and Ryan Lafave’s September 5 Cedarwood wedding was a tapestry of richly woven details that connected past and present in the most beautiful and meaningful ways.

Jillian’s style was full of romance and authentically vintage elements. Antique lace, family portraits, heirloom pearls and cameos graced everything from wedding invitations to bouquets to decor. These enchanting elements were anchored by one magnificent style statement: Jillian’s heirloom wedding dress!

Featuring intricate details, trim, appliques and cotton crochet lace, this custom designed dress was handmade by her maternal grandmother, June Tommie, and worn by her mother, Peggy, when she married Jillian’s father, Allen Franklin. Jillian is stunning and purely original in this perfect fitting dress.  We absolutely adore the next two photos  of Jillian’s grandmother and mother helping her into her wedding dress.  Some things really are priceless.

Kate Crafton of The Studio Five did an immensely impressive job of capturing so many captivating images from this wedding.  We do not exaggerate when we say it was a tremendous challenge to cut our favorite photographs for a three-part feature on this wedding!

Beauty + emotion + spacial intrigue = phenomenal wedding photographs. Well done, Kate!

Cedarwood planners had an amazing time with Jillian and Peggy in identifying the right details and designing floral and decor to carry out this dreamy romantic vintage wedding style.  Jillian’s bridal bouquet featured the quintessential vintage wedding flower, Lilly of the Valley.  Along with white stock, gardenias, and white freesia, embellished with heirloom lace and pearl accents, this bouquet could have been plucked out of a country estate wedding from a former era.

Ryan’s boutonniere was appropriately wrapped with a touch of lace from Jillian’s bouquet.  Bridesmaids carried “Timeless” roses, white stock, queen Anne’s lace and white freesia tied with moss ribbon and lace streamers for a decidedly vintage feel.

True to tradition, Ryan didn’t want to see Jillian before the wedding.  That didn’t stop Kate from setting up some creative pre-ceremony photographs!  Kate tied a cloth around Ryan’s eyes and he was ready to go. Some of the best photos of the day are among this ‘blindfold series’ – especially the look on Jillian’s face when Ryan was led  outside!

Gorgeous flower girl, Mary Grace Abel, hangs out in the front lawn swing before the wedding (photo below.)  There’s a lot more gorgeousness coming up! Join us for Jillian and Ryan’s vintage-romantic garden ceremony in Part 2.

Sometimes it’s nice to see the Cedarwood grounds before the action begins.  The above photos shows the garden terrace and barnyard at mid afternoon (aproximately 3:30 P.m.)  The sun is just beginning to dip behind the trees to the west, which creates the beautiful long shadows on the meadow and shades the ceremony area by 5:30 P.m.  We think the ideal lighting for a Cedarwood ceremony is one hour prior to sunset.  Magical!

More from Kate Crafton, Jillian and Ryan coming soon.  You guys are fantastic!
