What do you do when you love the outdoors but want to get married in a church? You bring the church outdoors! That’s exactly what we did for the August 15 Cedarwood wedding of Megan Powell and Brett Wiendenhoeft. Our stunning Outdoor Cathedral is erected with ten foot Gothic church windows and antique carved solid Oak church pews set in Cedarwood’s green summer meadow. It’s a site to make anyone pause at the beauty of God’s handiwork. Add the love of a beautiful young couple, united in holy matrimony by a minister complete with communion for everyone, and you have a setting and ceremony to evoke a spiritual experience. As guests approached the altar one by one to receive communion from the Doctor-Reverend Lenoir Culbertson in a moving moment of interaction with the bride and groom , there was no doubt that they were in a sacred space.
Ivory and butter-cream flowers with pops of golden yellow in vintage blue mason jars decorated the altar and pews. The altar cloth was a rug Megan had found to anchor her wedding design, and which will resume it’s supporting role in Megan and Brett’s home. White doves hung from the altar flowers as tributes to Megan and Brett’s grandparents who have passed on. They seemed to ‘fly’ on the breeze during the ceremony! Megan and her mother made custom wedding programs with a sewn binding!
Megan wore a stunning strapless ball gown with cathedral train by Jasmine from The White Room and an Amsale reception gown from The Bride Room. The bride’s wedding jewelry included chandelier earings by Paris from The Bride Room, a Homa bracelet from Arzelle’s and turquoise reception earings from Anthropologie. Bridesmaids’ dresses by The Dessy Collection are from Arzelle’s. We will share some of Megan’s amazing bridal portraits by Leslee Mitchell in another post so you can appreciate the beautiful detailing of her dresses! The bride’s bouquet, designed by Cedarwood’s master designer, Karen Wright, was a soft and romantic blend of dahlias, chrysanthemums, roses, spray roses, craspedia, stock, trachelium and zinnias.
Megan is a graduate of O’More College of Design in Franklin, Tennessee and a dream bride with lots of creative ideas and the talent to execute a lot of personally unique details (with assistance from her amazing parents Suzy and Richard Powell.) We’re going to devote a whole post to these fantastic lovelies from Megan and Brett’s wedding day in part 2. Did they rent the church pews? If so, can you tell me where?
Hi Annie. Cedarwood owns the church pews and reclaimed gothic church windows. They complete the ceremony option we call the Cedarwood Outdoor Cathedral. Thanks for visiting our blog.
